Vision and Mission
As a young child, I have always been interested in the healthcare field and have always had the desire to help others. Those desires are what brought me to the boundless field of nursing and what brought me to Walden University. From working on an oncology/post-operation unit, my eyes have been open to how sick patients can become and how much they really need us by their side. My experience has also shown me how much of a difference a great nurse can make in patients lives. My goal has always been to help people and to make a positive impact on people’s lives. This nursing informatics program through Walden University will allow me to continue to do so. I realized that Walden will help me actualize my professional goals in that it will allow me to provide care to my patients while also gaining advanced knowledge to provide care in a different manner.
Nursing is forever changing every day and so is technology. They’re becoming more intertwined as the years fly forward. Walden’s School of Nursing greatly exemplifies that. They envision a 21st-century program that provides enhancements in global nursing care that meets the needs of patients throughout the lifespan (“School of Nursing,” n.d.). Through Walden’s mission of providing rigorous, relevant, and diverse coursework, backed by evidence-based practice, I will have the tools to learn, comprehend, and apply my knowledge in the nursing informatics field (School of Nursing).
Social Change
As mentioned prior, it is my desire to make an impact. This can be accomplished through social change. Social change implies work that benefits not just one person, but everyone locally and globally (Komives & Wagner, 2016). Through leadership and teamwork, one can invigorate social responsibility and make a difference (Komives & Wagner). I intend to use the knowledge I learn at Walden to push for policies and enhance healthcare databases that potentiate patient care. By using data through innovative techniques, one can gain insights on the policies needed to enhance healthcare and well being (Yeung, 2018).
