Subject: Proposal to convince Ford Company build green power cars.
Introduction
Green power is considered as a renewable energy which represents resources and technologies that provide less harm to environment, such as electricity produced from wind, solar, and biomass. These days, all kind of transportations use fuels such as gasoline and diesel, which produced from fossil fuels, have negative effects to the environment. Electric and biofuel energy sources are considered as a replacement of fossil fuels. Some companies started to design green power cars such as electric cars. I plan to perform research on the benefits of using electricity and biofuels for cars and other transportations convincing Ford Company which is one of the biggest car manufactures in the world, to design their cars to fit the use of green power. The benefits will be for the company, customers, and environment. I will compare the advantages and disadvantages of fossil fuel and green power (electric and biofuel).
Background
The use of gasoline that is extracted from fossil fuels such as petroleum for cars and other transportations has negative effects on environment and climate change. The reason why car manufactures design their cars for the use of fossil fuels is because of the cost of production. The cost of producing fossil fuel is lower than other source of fuels. But due to the excess of using gasoline and diesel, huge amount of CO2 is produced which led to climate change and negative effect on the ozone. A Couple years ago, researches tried to find a replacement for the gasoline and diesel produced form fossil fuel. They found that they can produce fuels from organic materials like sugarcane and corns. Also, the use Biofuels has less negative effects to the environment compared to the use of gasoline and diesel. However, the cost of producing biofuel is kind of expensive compared to the production of fossil fuel. This may affect the price of biofuel but if we know more about the negative effects of using fossil fuels, we may rethink of using gasoline or diesel. Also, using electricity as an energy source has a lot of benefits to the environment. There are two ways to generate electricity in cars, first way is using electrochemistry (batteries). Second way is using solar panels, they might be kind of expensive panels but they provide less harm to the environment. Moreover, electric cars do not produce CO2 which is clean source of energy. I believe if Ford Company design their cars to use biofuels, or build more electric cars, they will be credited for being friendly to the environment.
Questions to be investigated
These questions will help me focus on the point of research that I should look for.
1- What are the negative effects of using fossil fuels to the environment? How is it going to effect the climate change ?
2- What is the cost of producing gasoline and diesel comparing to the production of green power?
3- What are the advantages and disadvantages of using biofuels to the environment? How much CO2 emissions from biofuels compared to fossil fuels?
4- What are the benefits of building electric cars to the environment and people? How electric cars are going to help people ? are they cheaper that conventional cars?
5- What Ford Company will get if they build green power cars? Are they gonna get rewards for that?
6- What is EPAs position from that?
I will focus in my paper on three major areas, the negative effects of using fossil fuels, how biofuels are better than fossil fuels, how electric cars are friendly to the environment, and how Ford will get priority of changing the design of their cars to allow the use of biofuels.
Methods of research
I plan to gather information for my research from deferent resources. First, I will search for articles and books using EBSCOhost database and Google Scholar. I also, will use the U.S Energy Information Administration website to find the cost of gasoline and diesel. Another website is GreenFacts: Facts on Health and The Environment which provide useful information about biofuels.
